This week in sports.

The week it was in sports: In case anyone didn't know this week Lane Kiffin decided he could not take the pressure of the SEC or a big name school so he headed off the west coast and took the vacant job at USC that was open due to Pete Carroll going to take the open job in Seattle with the Seahawks. So that left Volnation in a scramble to find the right man fast, quick, and in a hurry. After a few guys said they were not interested including DC at Texas Will Muschamp and former OC at UT David Cutcliff, I think they got a great hire in Derek Dooley. He comes from a great pedigree in his dad Vince Dooley that was the head coach and AD at Georgia for man years. Derek comes from La Tech where he was not only the HC but also the AD. I do believe that Volnation will be happy with the new coach. It just might take some time for him to build the program back to where it was in the late 90's.

Also in college football, this past saturday Alabama celebrated their 13 national title with a party at Bryant-Denny Stadium. It was free to the public to attend so that all the faithful Tide could see the coach's trophey. With nearly 40,000 fans in attendence, the players and coaches commited on the past season and how they hope for a repeat.

In pro football, anyone that says that defense doesn't win championships all they have to do is look at 3 of the 4 divisional games played this weekend. First was the Colts the unexpectedly won their game against the Ravens with defense. Holding the Ravens to only 3 points, shows the improved play of the D in Indy. Also the Viking put a spanking on the high flying Cowboys. The ageless wonder Brett Farve threw for 240 yards and 4 tds, which is a career high in the playoffs. The Purple People Eaters, they used to be called in the 70s, held Dallas to only 3 points and 4 turnovers. Out west the Jets, yes the J-E-T-S, stopped the 11 win streak of the Chargers and their expolsive offense. The Jets, with the best rated D in the NFL showed that the team that blocks, runs, and tackles the best will win the football game. The Saints also showed that they are of the best teams with a beat down of the Cardinals. The Saints scored on the first 4 possisions and a punt return for a TD buy Reggie Bush to show that they are ready to play in their first Super Bowl. Next will be some great football with the Vikings and their 106 year old qb go to New Orleans to take on the Saints. The the Jets travel to take on Peyton(such a great name) and the Colts.

So ya'll all let me know what you think and how it sounds any constructive critism is greatly appreciated. Just email to hargrovesports@hotmail.com.
